Why Can I Not Access Outlook on My Home Computer?

Due to security concerns, Royal Roads university has disabled access to RRU emails for students using applications like Outlook, Windows Mail and Mac Mail on non-RRU computers.

Connecting personal Outlook to our mail server presents a security risk because someone could easily download names/info from our Global Address List or it could allow spam/phishing/viruses writers another route into our system. RRU does not want to add another substantial number of unsecured computers connecting to our mail system at this time.

In addition, in the past, we have had sporadic issues with Macs and Exchange Web Services where the Mac issues relentless hits against the server, slowing it down and generating excessive amounts of log files. The only fix is to have the person reboot the Mac or block it outright.

We apologize for the inconvenience this causes. You may continue to use Webmail and you can connect your email to your mobile devices as per instructions found on this page. Staff can also use Sentinel to access Outlook while off campus.
