How to adjust how links work in Teams
When you click on a link in Teams, if enabled, it can open the files in a way that you might not appreciate. For example
When clicking on a browser link it might open in Edge not your preferred browser
When clicking on a document (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) it might open in Teams instead of the appropriate desktop app
When opening a link, a separate sidebar will open with the conversation that you were reading when you click on the link. It will look like this:
If you do not want Option 1 and 2 features, you can turn it off by doing the following:
In Teams, top right next to your initials, click on the “…“ and select Settings
Select Files and links on the right

Change the option for links open preference
Press right arrow to back out and save the changes.
If you do not want Option 3, you can turn it off by doing the following
In Edge, top right next to your initials, click on the “…“ and select Settings
Select Sidebar on the left
Select Teams in the middle
Turn off the the feature that says Automatically open Teams chat context in the side pane
Press right arrow to back out and save the changes.
