Update to the new version of Teams by March 31
In January, we let you know that Microsoft had released a new version of Teams. Many of you updated at that time. If you are still using the old version of Teams, you will be affected by a mandatory update pushed by Microsoft over the next few weeks.
To avoid interruption in service and/or inconvenience, ensure you’re using the latest version.
Identify which version of Teams you are using
Characteristics of the new version
This is what the new version looks like (unless you changed it already)
upper left corner, “New” is written on the icon
grey title bar
white-ish background
only a phone handset pic on the far right
Click on the ellipses to the left of your profile picture (or initials in a circle if you don’t have a picture). If you don’t see ‘About’ listed there, this is the new version. Also, at least in my case, I can tell I’m using the new version because of the indictor at the bottom telling me that new teams is “on”.
If you’re using the new version, there is no action for you to take. You’re all set.

If you have any problems, please contact the Helpdesk.
Still not sure which version you’re using?
Click Start
Begin typing “Team…”
You’ll see something similar to this. That icon indicates this is the old version. The word “classic” may nor may not exist for you but the icon will look like the picture shown.
But wait. You may also see “Microsoft Teams (work or school). That’s the new version.
Click on the right arrow next to “Microsoft Teams (work or school). Now you can see new Teams.
Click on the icon for new Teams to open it.
Does this look like the one you use every day?
If so, you’re all set. Microsoft may delete the old version in the next few weeks but you won’t be negatively affected.
If not, go back to the Install New Teams instruction and go through the installation process.
