Applications are Blocked Due to Group Policy
If you get an error that you cannot open a windows application like Notepad, Sticky Notes or even Photos, then it sounds like the applications need to be updated.
A recent decision (January 20, 2022) to allow Microsoft Store to manage Windows applications on RRU computers can have issues if the applications are out of date. To fix this issue, do the following:
- Click on Start Button and Type CMD <hit enter>
- In the black window type gpupdate /force <hit enter>
- When the policy is updated, type exit <hit enter>
- Click on the Start Button and type the word Store <hit enter>. This will open the Microsoft Store
- Either:
- Click on the Library icon (bottom left) and then click Get Updates (top right)
- or click on the three dots at the top right and choose Downloads and updates
- Update all the software. It should not take too long
- Once the updates are all complete you can close the Microsoft Store
- Try running your software again
