Currently the Royal Roads license for SurveyMonkey is for Staff only.
We do recommend that you create a free SurveyMonkey account and use that. - https://www.surveymonkey.com/
This account can be used for all Royal Roads surveys, however the student must post a message on their survey notifying the respondent that this information will live on American servers. The Office of Research can help guide students on the correct messaging.
If a student or associate faculty requires the additional functionality, including a requirement for the data to remain in Canada, a request needs to go through the help desk.
- Students – Students with a research project approved by the Research Ethics Board, per the Research Ethics Policy, may request access. In addition, Research projects which seek to use RRU as a site of investigation need to be approved by the Office of the Vice-President Academic and Provost. You can start this process by creating a request to Computer services. Please attach a copy of the approved ethics review letter when submitting a request. The accounts are approved for a specific amount of time and then the account (and data) will be removed from the SurveyMonkey site. (If the link does not work you can send an email to ComputerServices.)
Associate Faculty for Research - Accounts only provided for a specific research project approved by the Research Ethics Board in conjunction with a core faculty member. Core faculty member makes the request on behalf of the associate faculty member, indicating that this is for university-sanctioned research.
- Associate Faculty for Class assignment - If you wish to use SurveyMonkey for a class assignment, the request can be made through CTET for access as a teaching tool – CTET would make the request for the course instance. Using SurveyMonkey as a tool for all students in a course might be arranged on a demonstration basis, rather than providing each student with a license for research ethics considerations. This would have to be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
