Activate your Academic (Moodle) Account - Students

Please note: Once you have been accepted into a program and are registered, you are officially a student and will automatically receive an email to the address you provided upon registration, detailing how to activate your computer account.

The email will contain a link for you to click that will direct you to an activation page where you will be asked to:

  1. Provide a passphrase.  Do not give this out to anyone, including instructors or other officials at the university.
  2. Update your Emergency contact information
  3. Accept responsibility for knowing our student policies and academic regulations

Once you've completed these three steps, please allow 30 minutes before you will have complete access to all the learning resources you'll need to complete your program.

What if I haven't received an activation email?

If you have not yet received such an email, please check the "Junk Mail" and/or "SPAM" folders in your email program first to ensure that it hasn't been improperly identified by your mail client.

If you cannot find your activation information, please Submit a Request. or you can also call (250) 391-2659 or 1-866-808-5429.  We will require your Student # so we can verify your identity before responding with your username.

If you do not know your Student ID Number or if you are not sure of your registration status, please contact the Registrar's Office by phone at 250 391-2528 or 1-800-788-8028 during normal working hours.

It will not accept my new passphrase?

We do not have any requirements for uppercase/lowercase/symbols, but we do require the passphrase to be at least 12 characters.  A phrase like "IloveRoyalRoads" is easy to remember but difficult for hackers to guess.

Some issues reported by other students:

  • 16 digit passphrases seem to give an error, so if your new passphrase is exactly 16 characters and not working, trying adding an extra character or change it to something shorter
  • Passwords with all numbers gave a student some difficulties
  • Too long (more then 25 characters) can also be problematic
  • If it constantly tells you the "confirm password" is wrong and you are using Safari, try a different browser like Chrome or Firefox instead.
