1. Embed or add a YouTube Video, Slideshare slideshow, etc… into a page or post
- From your browser's address bar, copy the direct url. For example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK_Zxzylgj8
and paste it into the WordPress editor. - No embed code is needed. It uses the oEmbed feature and will automatically convert the link and show the player.
- Does this work with any url? No, not by default. WordPress will only embed URLs matching an internal whitelist. This is for security purposes.
- So what sites can I embed from? Check this list of approved sites.
2. Embed a Google doc
- Activate the Advanced iFrame plugin. View instructions here.
3. Add social media icons
There are multiple ways to add social media to your site.
- Some themes will have icons built in already. The icon will be visible once a social media link is put in.
- Some themes will have a secondary menu called a social menu. Search for the theme online to find out more.
- Or, activate one of these plugins:
- Monarch plugin
- this can add a floating menu of icons or row of icons
- Documentation, Adding Networks
- Super Socializer plugin
- this can add a floating menu of icons or row of icons
- Knowledgbase article
- Divi Builder plugin
- add icons using the Social Follow Module.
4. Create a link to another web site in a widget
Add the HTML code for an anchor link into your Text or Custom HTML widget. For example, copy and paste the following code below:
<a href="http://www.royalroads.ca" target="_blank">Royal Roads University</a>
- Replace www.royalroads.ca and Royal Roads University to the web site you wish to link to. Save.
- Links Menu (Blog roll) - create a list of links to your favorite blogs or sites in your sidebar
5. Create an Email Me link in a widget
- Add the following HTML code into your Text or Custom HTML widget:
<a href="mailto:cathy@royalroads.ca" />Email Me</a>
- Replace cathy@royalroads.ca to your email address.
6. Add a Twitter feed to a widget
- Under Dashboard → Appearance → Widgets → use Twitter Timeline (Easy Twitter Feed Widget)
- Use your Twitter username or widget ID
7. Use shortcodes to add more functionality
- Insert built in shortcodes or 50+ shortcodes from Shortcodes Ultimate.

8. Add a contact form
There are a couple of ways to add a contact form, activate one of these plugins:
- Divi Builder - Contact Form module
- Contact Form 7
