Has the Alertus icon been installed on your computer?

As part of security improvements on campus, RRU has implemented a mass notification system called Alertus which will be used to alert people on campus of emergencies and critical incidents. You would have read about this system and the Great BC Shakeout in Crossroads. The Alertus notifications will be delivered in a variety of ways, such as a pop-up notice on your computer or a full-screen takeover when the computer is on campus and connected to the RRU network.

Your action is required

Please check to see if your RRU computer is ready to receive these important notifications by looking for the Alertus icon with the green check mark in the task bar, which is located at the very bottom of your screen, usually on the far right side.

** this applies ONLY to RRU-owned computers. The Alertus icon will not be installed on personal computers.

If you have a small number of items in the task bar, you may see it immediately, like this:

But if you have a lot of items in the task bar, there will be a little up arrow on the left of the collection. Click on that up arrow to expose the items that are out of sight.

(If it will bring you comfort to see that little yellow icon in your tray, you can click & hold while dragging it down then drop it just to the right of that up arrow.)

Problems?

If you:

  1. don’t see the yellow icon

  2. see the yellow icon but it has a red X through it

… please reboot your computer.

If you still don’t see the icon with the green arrow, please let us know via email and we’ll help coordinate the work to make sure you have what you need to be kept informed.
