October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is upon us and once again it's Cybersecurity Awareness Month.  This is the 17th year of this annual event.  Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a world-wide initiative, observed in over 34 countries world-wide.

We will have a LOT of new material for you this year with a lot of the resources we provide suitable for sharing with family members.  We will be distributing many of these resources to you in our twice-weekly emails and will be providing additional information and resources on this site.  You'll also notice that this year we've included a lot more media - videos, etc. - and a lot less reading.  We've also upped our game as far as "fun" stuff goes.  Look for crosswords, challenges, word searches, etc. and... new this year.. an Internet Scavenger Hunt. (The scavenger hunt is a LOT of fun...)  Please remember that you are free, and in fact encouraged, to share he resources we provide you as part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month with friends, family, etc.

Why the push on Cybersecurity?  Simple... cyber crime is still rising and the criminals are getting better and better at what they do.  They're not just hacking big companies; they're taking on local governments, higher education institutions, research facilities and - with COVID-19 being an issue on everyone's mind - they have the perfect "hook".  Add to that the additional complication that many of us are working outside the corporate "umbrella", away from the protection of the network, and the potential for harm is great.  However, if we take the time to sharpen our skills a little, become aware of the latest tactics the bad guys are using and practice good cybersecurity habits we stand a much better chances of dodging the attacks they're sending our way.

So please...check out our Cybersecurity Awareness Month information.  The links are on the left side and we'll be adding content as the month goes on.
