Outlook Personal Folders have limits, too

Please note that Personal Folders (PST) are no longer supported or required.  Outlook Online Archiving is now implemented on all accounts and provides greater accessibility, security and convenience.  PST folders should not be created and only used as a last resort.  Please contact Computer Services by phone, email or Online Request Form before creating a PST folder.

If you move too many messages into a Personal Folder (.pst file), over time, it may become corrupt and access to these messages could be denied and un-recoverable.  To prevent this from happening, you should monitor the size of your Personal Folders, removing unwanted and outdated messages.  Anything older than two years should be deleted or archived.

If your Personal Folder reaches a maximum of 800 MB consider starting a new personal folder.  A very successful practice is to create PST folders by year.  January 1st, create a new PST and begin to populate that one as you go.  This will help to keep your messages organized, without going over your maximums.
