Your Academic Account (Must read!)

...

As a student in a credit program, you have two accounts but one RRU Login. The RRU Login username has two different formats. You one Academic Account that you’ll use to access resources during your studies. You received a notice to set up a password and activate this account when it was created for you.

...

Depending on which resource you’re using, you may be required to enter your Academic Account in one of two formats. No matter which format you use, the password you set up when you activated your RRU Login username differently depending on the system you’re using. To keep these straight, please continue readingaccount must be used.

Format

Use this format to log into sites and services like:

your first initial + your last name + @royalroads.ca

like: d1brown@royalroads.ca

(technically called a User Principle Name or UPN, this is the long form of your Academic Account)

your first initial + your last name + @royalroads.ca

like: d1brown@royalroads.ca

(technically called a Security Accounts Manager, or SAM, this is the short form of your Academic Account)

  • MyAdmin where you can you can pay bills, order transcripts, view grades, order a bus pass, upload documents, manage your email forwarding and update your personal email address.

Info

How will I know which username format to use?

Look for prompts on the login screen that tell you which format to use.

However, a simple rule is: if the site is a Microsoft managed site with a login that looks like this, you should use the long form of your Academic Account (i.e. d1brown@royalroads.ca).

All others use the short form of your Academic Account (like d1brown) unless otherwise directed.

During your program, it may be necessary for you to register for services that are outside of RRU or managed separately. In these cases, you’ll create accounts that are different from your Academic Account.

For a complete list of all your possible logins and other accounts, including those mentioned above, please see /wiki/spaces/ITKNOW/pages/5840838.

titleClick for bonus info: How did we come up with your username and email address.
  1. The username is created using the first initial of your Preferred Name + your last name.
(IE. Student name Douglas Brown becomes dbrown.)

  2. If the username dbrown has been used previously, then the last name is preceded with a number.  Therefore the system will check the availability of d1brown.  If that is taken, it increments upward until the system finds an unused username (IE. d1brown).

Second the email address is generated based on the username.

  1. Using the example above, Douglas Brown, username d1brown, will get an email address of Douglas.4Brown @ Royalroads.ca.

We cannot changed the name except in very specific circumstances. This includes legal name change or of the username is offensive. If the username is offensive, then the username is incremented by 1 number.

RRU Email

All RRU official correspondence is sent to your RRU email account. There are a few ways to access your RRU email account. (a couple methods require a mobile device)

...

Webmail access - In order to access this webmail account you must first setup MFA. Once you have MFA setup, you can now log into RRU Webmail. There will be no email in your email account as long as forwarding is on
