Moodle - Whole Forum Grading (staff/faculty)

Whole forum grading offers a streamlined and efficient way to assess students' participation in online forum discussions. This advanced tool enables the assigning of a single, holistic grade for each student's overall contribution to a discussion forum. Using this feature can promote active involvement in collaborative learning while also encouraging meaningful interaction among students, while making the grading process for online discussions more comprehensive and efficient.

For more information on Whole Forum Grading, and forum grading in general, we recommend watching the following Bits & Bytes session. It starts at 2 minutes in and transitions into Q&A at 17 minutes. Watching the video at 1.5x speed work well.

Enabling Whole Forum Grading

Navigate to the forum you'd like to enable Whole Forum Grading on, select the gear at the top right, and then select Edit Settings.
Scroll down to the Whole Forum Grading heading and select it to expand it.
Set Grade type to Point and set the maximum grade.
Scroll to the bottom and select Save and Display.

Enabling Advanced Grading: Rubric or Marking Guide

Rubric and Marking Guide work similarly in Forum to how they work in the Moodle Assignment Activity, including how they're enabled, so we refer you to those articles:
