These instructions assume you want to access a course on the Royal Roads University Continuing Studies Moodle server and do not have an account.

These instructions are for students who did NOT register for a course through the PCS website. You likely had a course link emailed to you from staff or an instructor.

April 30, 2023: The system is undergoing a transition and following the steps in these instructions will not work. Staff will need to manually create an account for you if you don't already have one.

Step 1. Create an Account

  • Navigate to the Create New Account page. Fill in the required details and select the Create Account button at the bottom.

  • It will prompt you to check your email to verifty the account request.

  • Navigate to the verification email that was sent to you. Note that your username appears in the email and you'll need it to login. Select Activate your account at the bottom of the email. The email is sent immediately so if you do not see it check your email spam folder. The subject line of the email is 'New RRU PCS Student Computer Account – ACTIVATION REQUIRED' and it is sent from DoNotReply@royalroads.ca.

  • Next, create a password.

  • Your account is now verified. Welcome!

Step 2. Enrol in your course

  • You probably received a link to your course in an email, along with an enrolment key. Go to your email and click on the link to your course.
  • Clicking on the link will take you to Moodle where you'll need to log in. Log in to Moodle using your username and password (the username was in the verification email sent to you and the password is the one you set).

  • If this is your first time in Moodle you'll see a cloud consent form. Select I accept and then Submit.

  • Once you're logged into Moodle, return to your email and click on the link to your course again (or search for your course in Moodle under 'Site home' at the top left and select on it).
  • Once you've clicked on the course link in your email you should be prompted to enter a self enrolment key for the course, as shown below. Enter the enrolment key you were provided in the email and then select the Enrol me button. Note that the enrolment key is case sensitive. If you receive an error entering in the enrolment key, ensure that you are typing the enrolment key exactly as you received it and that you are trying to enrol into the correct course.

  • You have enrolled in your course. Enjoy!

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Can't login to Moodle

If you cannot log in to Moodle, navigate to https://csonline.royalroads.ca/moodle and select the Forgotten your username or password link. Please test using your email address and any email addresses you may have used to create your account. You should receive the reset email very quickly if your email address is in the system (within seconds if your email provider isn't slowing it down). This isn't currently working.

Can I use my existing RRU account?

Staff/instructor accounts may be used to log in to CS Moodle if the accounts are active (old, deactivated accounts will not work). RRU student accounts do not include CS Moodle, so if you're an RRU student please create a new account.

Which email address should I use to create an account?

When creating an account people usually use their personal email addresses to ensure they continue to have access (not work email addresses). You may also use an RRU email address (if you're an RRU student) but you may lose access later when your RRU account (and email address) is deactivated.
