The host key is useful if you set up a meeting and want someone else to be able to join your meeting and become the host while you're not present. A Zoom meeting can only have one host, so you cannot use the host key if someone else in the meeting is already a host but can ask them to make you a co-host.

If you don't already have your host key, here's how to get it: sign in to Zoom on the web, select My Account at the top right (if you're not already there), select Profile under personal on the left, and the Host Key will be under the meeting heading in the middle. Select the eye icon next to the host key to reveal the key. You may also select Edit to the right if you'd like to set your host key to something that's easier to remember.

If you've created a Zoom meeting with the Moodle Zoom activity you will automatically become the host if you connect to your meeting using the 'Start meeting' button in the activity.

Steps to using the host key after joining a meeting

Step 1: If the Participants pane isn't already open on the right, select the Participants button at the bottom to open the Participants pane.

Step 2: At the bottom of the Participants pane, select the Claim Host button. Enter in the host key and select the Claim Host button.

Now that you're the host you'll see Host next to your name in the participant list.
