At RRU, you must have an Academic Account to complete both credit and non-credit courses and programs. However, Why did you receive an email from us about possibly needing an Academic Account?

Because until recently, members of the RRU workforce who accessed courses through Professional and Continuing Studies (PCS) used their work username and password - or a manually created account - to register and sign in to their system. This is because RRU could not support an Academic Account in the old non-credit system and we weren’t provisioning students in non-credit courses with a computer account.

Good news!

We needed to let you know that things had changed. Because of recent upgrade to the Student Management System in PCS and simultaneous changes in how we manage identities at RRU, we can now support a single student identity across RRU.

What that means for you

If Now, if you wish to take courses through PCS, you must first have an Academic Account, which you will use as a student. The Academic Account is different (but similar) from the account you use to log in to things when you’re working. The advantage to you is that all of your coursework (credit and non-credit) will belong to one person - the student you. And even if you retire from RRU and no longer have access to the username & password you used for work, your student identity will live on.

There is no change to the application process for people wishing to register in a credit program, where an Academic Account has always been required.

We’re glad you’re interested in enrolling in an RRU course!

You’ll need to create an Academic Account before you can enroll in a non-credit course.

When asked for a personal email address:

  • do not use the email address you have on file in CAMP. That is reserved for your work-self. It is best if you don’t take this opportunity to change the email address you have on file in CAMP as doing so will cause complications and delays

  • do not use your work RRU email address to create an Academic Account.

If you do not have another email address to use for this, it will be necessary to create one. We recommend creating a Gmail account.

If you cannot find or do not know the email address on file in CAMP, contact the Helpdesk for assistance.

To administer courses or teach, you must log in using the username & password you’ve been using all along, which identifies you as the person that works here. It is this person who has been given that level of access to the course(s) they teach or administer.

I don’t already have an Academic Account. How do I get one?

If you plan to enroll in PCS courses

Visit the PCS website and click on ‘Student Portal’ at the top of the screen, then:

  1. if you’ve never had an Academic Account before - click on the ‘Create Account’ button to get started

    • When creating an Academic Account, you’ll need to provide a personal email address that is different than the personal email address related to your work computer account (in CAMP)

    • You must not use your RRU email address as your personal address for your Academic Account

    • If you don’t have an alternate email address to use, it will be necessary to create one to use with your Academic Account

    • It is best if you don’t take this opportunity to change your email address in CAMP because there will be a delay while the system syncs in the background and you will not be able to create your Academic Account until that’s done.

    • More help is available from the PCS website

  2. if you have had an Academic Account before, choose to ‘Login’ instead then enter your credentials to access the student portal. Here’s more information about this scenario.

There is no need to wait until the last minute! You could create an Academic Account right now so that you’re ready to go when you are inspired to enroll in a course.

If you plan to apply for a credit program

Start the application process normally, by (obtaining your supervisor’s & HR’s approval, if required, then) visiting MyAdmin, and completing the application. An Academic Account will be created for you during the application process.

I have a username because I am currently in a credit program and/or I am an alumni from a credit program. Do I need to do anything?

To set yourself up to access courses through PCS, you will need to validate that account by entering your usual academic account username in the long format like j5smith@royalroads.ca + your password and then following the instructions.

I already created an Academic Account through the PCS website student portal. Do I need to do anything else?

If you have created an account (or had one created for you) and have logged in successfully on the PCS website student portal, you are all set and don’t need to do anything else.
