My Media: Videos Are Not Displaying
The spot where the video should be is a blank space.
The browser extension Privacy Badger will block these videos. If you have this browser extension installed, either remove the extension or add ‘royalroads.ca’ to the ‘Disabled sites’ section of the Privacy Badger settings.
Additional Troubleshooting Ideas
Try viewing the videos with your browser in Incognito mode and see if the videos will load. To do so in Chrome, select the customize button at the top right (the three dots), and select New incognito window. If the videos work in Incognito it’s likely that there is a browser extension blocking the videos from playing since incognito doesn’t usually load extensions. You could try disabling all your extensions and see if the videos play. If the videos play with the extensions disabled then enable them one-by-one and try again to figure out which extension is causing the problem.
Try another device on the same network. If, for example, the videos will not play on your laptop but will play on another computer or your phone (with your phone on the same network) then there may be security software on the laptop that is blocking the videos.
If multiple devices on your network will not play the videos then it may be an issue with the network. Perhaps you on a corporate network that is using network blocking software.
Kaltura Capture: Ensure you have the latest version of Kaltura Capture software
For the latest releases check out the Kaltura Release Notes. The version in Moodle may be a version behind.
Here are direct links as of October 28, 2024:
Or, to install from Moodle, go to My Media → Add New → select Kaltura Capture from the drop down menu.
Note: For Mac OS X Catalina 10.15, check that the camera and microphone are unlocked from system preferences also.
If you are still having problems with narrated PowerPoints or screencasts, use another tool to record it. Then use a free tool like Panopto, Screencast-o-matic (15 mins free), or OBS. Some will have educational pricing like Snagit, etc. Once the media file is saved on your computer, upload the .mp4 or media file from your computer into your My Media library in Moodle and post it into the activity or assignment.

Computers can have software on them with security-oriented features that allow block the webcam. Here are a couple examples:
Some Lenovo computers. Refer to Zoom's documentation to solve this issue (it's not related to Zoom, but their documentation solves it).
Kaspersky Antivirus has a security setting that can the prevent the camera from recording an image even when the light on the camera is on. To turn this feature off, go into Kaspersky Security settings and turn off "Webcam Protection"

Kaltura Capture: How do I find the recordings on my computer? - Windows
For Windows computers:
The recording will show as an .mp4 video file on your computer, it saves it to the Users folder.
The folder path is:
C:\Users\cpretorius\AppData\Local\Kaltura\Capture\RecordingsReplace cpretorius with the user name used on your computer:
C:\Users\your computer's username\AppData\Local\Kaltura\Capture\Recordings
Note: You can also find the path by right clicking your mouse and selecting properties:
In the Target box, select and copy all of the text:
Open Windows Explorer, and paste the copied text into the bar at the top - C:\Users\cpretorius\AppData\Local\Kaltura\Capture\Bin\KalturaCapture.exe
Delete or remove \Bin\KaturaCapture.exe from the path
Press enter
You should now see the Recordings folder
Double click to open the Recordings folder
Once you have the folder open, look for the .mp4 file you want to copy. The date of the recording will also show in your Kaltura Capture library.
Selecting the file will also show a thumbnail picture in the bottom left corner of the window.
Copy the .mp4 file to your desktop or save it to another folder on your computer. Then log into Moodle and upload directly into your MyMedia Library
Kaltura Capture: How do I find the recordings on my computer? - Mac
For Mac Computers:
Look for the recordings in the User Library folder.
Note: the (User) Library folder is intentionally hidden because it has settings and files that can affect how the computer operates.
Look in the top menu bar for the Go menu. Hold down the Option button (alt) on your keyboard + click on Go and the Library will unhide in the drop down menu and show up in the list of items.
Select Library and navigate through the folders, go to Preferences > Kaltura > Capture > Recordings. If you don’t see the Kaltura folder, try shift+cmd+period to see if the folder can be unhidden.
From the Recordings folder, look for the recent video file, it would be a .mp4 or .mpeg file. Copy the .mp4 or .mpeg file to your desktop (do not move it as it could cause a problem). You can rename this copy before uploading into My Media in Moodle if you like.
Then log in into Moodle and go to My Media > Add New > Media Upload.
