PCI Compliance Training

In accordance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and Royal Roads University Credit Card Handling Policy, all staff who handle credit card information must undergo training on credit card handling best practices and the RRU Credit Card Handling Policy.

The Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) was launched on September 7, 2006 to manage the ongoing evolution of the Payment Card Industry (PCI) security standards with a focus on improving payment account security throughout the transaction process. The PCI DSS is administered and managed by the PCI SSC (www.pcisecuritystandards.org), an independent body that was created by the major payment card brands (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and JCB.). It is important to note that the payment brands and acquirers are responsible for enforcing compliance, not the PCI council.

PCI at RRU

The PCI DSS applies to ANY organization, regardless of size or number of transactions, that accepts, transmits or stores any cardholder data.  As such, Royal Roads University adheres to the PCI DSS standards and practices in the handling of credit card information.  Financial Services has primary responsibility for PCI DSS at RRU and is supported in the technical aspects of the PCI DSS by IT Services.

PCI training is conducted via an on-line Moodle course.  At the end of this course you will:

  1. Understand why we train / regulate how credit cards are handled
  2. Understand RRU credit card policy & procedures
  3. Have learned how to safely and securely process credit card transactions
  4. Have learned how to protect a POS device
  5. Have learned what to do when there is a problem

The PCI course is only available to those whose position requires that they handle credit card information, or supervise those who do.

You may access the PCI course here: http://csonline.royalroads.ca/moodle/course/view.php?id=190
