Topics covered in this article
Please note: videos embedded in courses before March 2025 have not been converted to the new player yet. The following instructions are for the new V7 player. See below for new player ID number.
Introduction
The transcript window displays captions in a window next to to the video being played. Viewers can follow along or search and jump to a specific point in the video where a word was spoken.

Pop-out transcript
The pop-out transcript feature lets you pop out the transcript into a floating, draggable, and resizable window, allowing for full-size video viewing. The side panel closes automatically when you pop out the transcript. All the usual transcript features are available in the popped out window, for example, words are highlighted, clicking on a word navigates to that point in the video, and you can use the search function.
If the player is large enough, a pop-out icon will appear at the top right of the player. Click this icon to pop out the transcript.
If you don't see the pop-out icon, click the three dots menu.
Select Popout transcript.
You can drag the transcript to a different area of your screen.
To cancel the pop out, click the X at the top right of the pop out, or click blue button Bring it back.

Updating Older Videos to the New Video Player in Moodle
*Instructions for faculty and staff - if you don't see the transcript icon for the transcript window the video player will need to be updated. There are two ways to update the video player:
Re-embed the video, see Moodle My Media - How to share a video or audio file in Moodle.
Or, change the video player ID number. Here are the steps to update the new player ID number:
In the Moodle editor, click the </> HTML button to view the HTML code.
Then in the HTML code, change /playerSkin/23449618 to /playerSkin/23451001.
The recommended player window size is 720x435 so the window doesn’t need to be popped out of the Moodle page.
Adjust the numbers between the bars so it look like this 720||435. See screenshot below.
