Portable Handheld Devices

The Information Technologies Services (IT Services) department of Royal Roads University provides specific support for faculty and staff who use portable handheld devices in the performance of their university duties.

Due to the great variety of devices available and the limited resources of the AIS department, AIS will support two popular phone operating systems at any given time to provide staff and faculty with some degree of choice.  Currently, the two operating systems supported are Android and iOS.  This support selection will be reviewed periodically (by market review and user survey) and if at some point it appears that technological innovation or popularity indicates that a different device should be supported, AIS will make that recommendation and provide a phase-out period for any discontinued device support.

AIS will obtain bulk purchasing discounts and airtime discounts for the devices and provide support to connect the devices to our corporate systems. Individuals wishing to obtain a portable handheld device will need to obtain their supervisor’s permission and the purchase and airtime charges will be the responsibility of the individual or the individual’s unit.  AIS will provide some basic troubleshooting, configuration and maintenance.

The Computer Services Helpdesk division of IT Services will provide limited support on non-RRU portable devices such as iPads, tablets, Blackberry and Windows phones when trying to access RRU resources, however we recommend that Staff and faculty who choose to use these other portable handheld devices will need to rely on their dealer for support.
