Zoom: Cloud recordings
You must be the host or a co-host of the Zoom meeting to start cloud recording.
If using the recommended Moodle Zoom activity your cloud recordings will automatically be made available to students. If you're not using the Zoom activity, cloud recordings will need to be shared manually.
Cloud recordings will automatically be deleted after 180 days. You will receive an email warning before they’re deleted.
Why use Cloud recording?
If you're using a Zoom meeting activity in Moodle, cloud recordings default to being automatically shared with students in the Zoom activity (this can be disabled in the Zoom meeting activity settings). Individual recordings can be hidden in the Zoom activity if needed.
Cloud recordings are very reliable since they're being recorded on Zoom's server, avoiding issues with the recordings that may be caused by poor network connections, software instability, or issues recording or processing the recording.
If you want to share a cloud recording with externals (people who can't access the Moodle course shell), you can copy the cloud recording link from zoom.us and share it directly with them.
How to start Cloud Recording
In your Zoom meeting, select Record and then Record to the Cloud. If you don't see the Record option, look under the More button.
How to Access Cloud Recordings with the Zoom activity in Moodle
By default, cloud recordings are automatically made available to students in the Zoom activity. Once the recording has finished processing it will take up to an hour to appear in the Zoom activity.
To access the recordings in your course, navigate to the Zoom activity in Moodle and select the View Recordings button.
Zoom recordings for this meeting will be available here. In the example below, there are two formats of the recording: video+audio and audio only.
Note the following:
The Zoom host may hide an individual recording from students by selecting the Hide Recording button. To unhide it later, return to this page and select the Show Recording button.
Recording links copied from this page cannot be shared with people who can't access this Zoom activity in Moodle. To share recordings with externals, the host will need to share the recording link from zoom.us.
Deleted recordings - If the host deletes a recording from zoom.us, it may take a day to disappear from the Zoom activity but will immediately become inaccessible, generating a "This recording does not exist" error for anyone clicking on it.
Zoom Recording Analytics
The Zoom activity in Moodle is connected to your Zoom account.
So for any recording analytics go to zoom.us and log in (select SSO if you are using single sign on).
Then in the left side menu select Recordings.
Click on the name of your recording.
Click the Recording Analytics link.
Click the tab, By View, to see the names and view durations.
As of 2022, only if a user has a Zoom account and is logged in will their name appear in the analytics. Otherwise, it will only show as a “Guest” for each person.
