Azure Portal for Students
Introduction
Azure for Students is a free Microsoft Azure offer designed specifically for eligible higher‑education students, giving them access to cloud services, learning tools, and Azure credits without needing a credit card.
Please note that for support on this service, you must contact Microsoft driectly. RRU IT does not provide support for these tools and services.
Procedure
Azure for Students Subscription Activation
The standard process for activating an Azure for Students subscription, completing academic verification, and confirming access to the available credits.
1. Access the Azure Students Page
Navigate to the official Azure for Students webpage:
https://azure.microsoft.com/free/students/Select Azure for Students.
Click Sign up.
2. Sign In
Sign in using the student’s institutional email account (firstname.lastname@royalroads.ca. Include the number if you have one)
Ensure authentication completes successfully.
Note: The institutional email must be active and eligible for student verification.
3. Academic Verification
The system will prompt the user to verify student status.
Required Information:
First name
Last name
Country
Institution name
Date of birth
Institutional email address
After completing the form:
Submit the information.
Wait for automatic verification confirmation.
If successful, the system will display a confirmation message indicating that academic verification has been completed.
4. Account Confirmation
After verification:
The system will begin the account confirmation process.
A processing screen may appear while the subscription is being configured.
5. Complete Profile Information
The user will be required to provide additional details:
Address
City
Province / State
Postal code
Phone number
Notification email (optional)
The user must also:
Accept the terms and conditions.
Confirm required declarations.
Select communication preferences.
Then click Sign up to proceed.
6. Security Configuration
As part of account protection:
The user may be prompted to configure additional authentication methods.
Multi-Factor Authentication is strongly recommended.
7. Access the Azure Portal
Once the process is complete:
The user will be redirected to the Microsoft Azure Portal.
The Education Overview dashboard will be displayed.
The available credit balance will be visible.
The expiration date of the credits will be shown.
8. Final Validation
To confirm the subscription is active:
Verify that the assigned credit balance appears.
Confirm no charges have been generated.
Validate that the subscription status shows as active under Subscriptions.
